Enter the Cold

I’ve been waiting two years to breathe in the cold — that’s how long its been since I traveled someplace cold. Ooooh I love to put away the flip flops and don furry boots, to layer clothes and wear a snuggly hat. Unlike many fashion victims er, um, women I think it’s looks stooopid to wear snow boots when it’s 75 degrees outside. I reserve mine for when it’s actually cold outside. And today in beautiful northern Virginia, I’m wearing my boots. I got them years ago from an amazing Wyoming outfitter — no socks required, which is good since I completely forget to bring a single pair of socks on this trip. I have on two shirts. My hat and gloves are by the door. This is my first cold weather since 2010 and I LOVE IT. On assignment to cover family friendly outdoor winter activities, I just got [...]

Ode to Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Series
Hmmm. We just saw Breaking Down Part II and I became incredibly emotional when it ended. Whether you love the Twilight series as I do, or you hate it or are indifferent — there is no denying it has its place in the reading and film worlds. Stephanie Meyer’s books have changed readership for the better — more kids are reading, and young adult books have followed, encouraging that trend. I think one reason I got so choked up in those final scenes is that this story marks the end of an era that deeply affected me as a writer. As I have just sacrificed my savings, am turning down assignments to spend every waking hour when I’m not writing for a living, finishing my first novel — the first in my own trilogy of books — I just pray that my characters touch people the way Stephanie’s incredible books [...]

Blossom Bunny… the story of the Rabbit Princess

There has been a lot of talk on Facebook and other social media lately about the loss of our beloved pets. I wrote the following short story years ago, as a way to escape the pain and suffering I felt after my sweet bunny, Miss Blossom died unexpectedly. It has always consoled me when I missed her most, because she and I had a relationship unlike any other pet I’ve had before or since. We had a kind of telepathy, and when she died, she took a piece of me with her. I hope it will be of comfort to anyone who is missing a pet today. The Story of the Rabbit Princess… dedicated to my beloved Blossom, my very own angel. Once upon a time in a magical forest, creatures great and small gathered nightly around a fallen tree limb to hear the wisdom of a mystical rabbit. The [...]

“Keepers of the Dance”

In Honor Of… Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support, Inc. Last year I attended and donated goods and services to Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support, Inc. Shortly before the luncheon, I found out that not one, but two of my friends were diagnosed with breast cancer. It was emotional to say the least. At this luncheon, I found myself seated at a table of sisters who were celebrating the life of another sister, lost to breast cancer. Their joy and loss moved me to write the following right at the table in honor of their beloved sister Sheere and my two friends. In honor of the Bosom Buddies 10th annual luncheon coming up on Feb. 1, I thought it apropos to share this with anyone who knows a woman who has been touched by breast cancer. Please support this worthy organization so we can all keep dancing! “Keepers of the Dance” Inspired [...]
